I met several women who did what many of us fantasize about – carried out revenge against their ex!  It’s not something I recommend, but just reading the revenge stories and thinking about revenge ideas can give us a buzz, even when we don’t do anything about it.

So what have people done that I talked to?

• Revenge idea 1: Got back together with a cheating ex, lulled him into thinking all was forgiven and got him to admit the full infidelity story – then kicked his ass out!
• Revenge idea 2: Glued ex boyfriend’s windshield wipers to the glass
• Revenge idea 3: Dating a friend of your ex boyfriend’s (ended badly – I do not recommend!)
• Revenge idea 4: Rating your ex boyfriend honestly on womansavers.com
  
• Revenge idea 5: One woman, after leaving her boyfriend after a massive fight channeled Glenn Close from Fatal Attraction.  She had bought him some designer jeans for his upcoming birthday, so she cut one leg off right up at the crotch.  She then wrapped it beautifully and left it at his front door.
• Revenge idea 6: I talked to a woman who, after her breakup, took their joint debit card out shopping, buying wonderful clothes for her and their daughter.

To get some more ideas, I went to Yahoo Answers and asked the community there what they might have done and got some interesting replies:

• Revenge idea 7: ‘My ex and I had a bad break up that was not my fought this time. So I knew her myspace username, logged on and clicked the I forgot password button. And answered the simple questions like what school you attended and whats your pets name and stuff like that, easy. And then I was ready to dig my own grave. Put her actual cell number on her profile and skanked it up a tad bit. Sent out some dirty emails to some of her friends with it and thats it. The next day we made up and I had to hurry and clean up everything I did before she found out. Well we broke up again and that was it.’
• Revenge idea 8: ‘i sent my ex a she-male escort and a mushroom, anchovy, black olive pizza with no sauce.’
• Revenge idea 9: ‘i’ve gotten revenge before i broke up with him.  all i can say is he cheated, i found out, i worked at a dr’s office and he needed to get tested and he ALLOWED me (of all people) to do the testing.  he cried and i told him to get out.’

Mostly though, revenge seems to stay just a fantasy.  Many women talked about dreaming of getting even, but most knew that those dreams weren’t really meant to turn into reality.  Many used the energy of revenge to make sure they held on to their self-respect in the months after the breakup.  Instead of acting, they turned the energy inward and focused it in a positive way on themselves.

Living your best life (and knowing your ex has missed out on someone great) is the best revenge of all.

This is breakup tip number 6 from my friend A who recently survived her breakup.  She wrote this great email to me listing the things that she learned from her divorce:

Breakup Tip #6:  #6 Look good.  He will eventually contact you.  You want to sound happy, you want to look great.  You want to have new friends and new plans to talk about.  Your mutual friends will be feeding back to him that you are coping just fine and getting on with life, and that you look hot!

I agree with this – but remember it is just a kind of vengeance.  You’re not aiming to get back with him, but hey, we’ve all had that fantasy that he’s going to regret it – whether he broke up with you or made things impossible so you broke up with him.  Great for your self esteem too (which has nothing to do with him!).
