You’ve followed the breakup tips and sorted out how to prepare your home for no contact with your ex and you’ve started preparing your habits to go no contact with your ex. You know that going no contact means unfriending him on Facebook. Now you need to think about your ex and your phone habits.

So what do you need to do, to prepare your phone habits for no contact?

If he is not ringing you and you have finished sorting out your stuff, if you think you are going to call him in moments of weakness, write his phone number down and stick it somewhere difficult to find and then delete it off your phone. There is something cathartic about deleting it too – go have a manicure or massage after to celebrate.

If he is ringing you, keep his number in your phone so you are able to see that it is him and not answer – you can deal with him by email.

If you still have his number in your phone and you go out drinking and
you think you might be at risk of drunken texting or calling, leave
your phone behind for the night. Best if those ‘I miss you’ and ‘booty
call’ messages don’t get sent.

Don’t be too hard if you break some of these no contact rules, but really think about the answer to these questions:

Did you feel better after you called him?

Did it make the pain go away?

Did he give you what you needed?

My guess is that ‘no’ is the answer to these questions. Following the no contact rule empowers you. Try hard to stick with it!

If you are struggling with going no contact with your ex, download the free chapter of my new ebook – The Smart Woman’s Breakup Book: ‘Get Him Out of Your Life.’ It gives you lists and exercises to follow to get you prepared to go no contact – and you get to read real-life stories of women and men facing this challenge after a breakup.
