Sex and the Newly Single Gal…

by Sarah on June 23, 2010

All day today I die,
I die eternally,
Losing myself in joy.
By one touch you put out time.

Losing yourself in the moment, as Carolyn Kizer’s poem describes, is just one of the benefits of having sex – the list is endless: you get to feel sexy and show off your new lingerie, it’s a treat, it’s exciting, it gives you some relief, relaxes you into sleep, improves your mood and you have a mini-break from your everyday life.  There are many health benefits to having orgasms as well – you might be on your own but you can still reap the rewards. I’ll be listing them all tomorrow!

There are a number of ways to get the benefits of sex when you are newly single.  The first is ‘self-love’, better known as plain old masturbation.  Then there is the casual encounter, whether it be an occasional one-night stand, a short-term fling, or hooking up with historic ex-boyfriends (not the recent kind).  We’ll have a look at these over the next couple of weeks.

If you need extra support getting over that ex of yours, and finding healthy diversions, check out The Smart Woman’s Breakup Program – it’s based on over 100 interviews with women facing breakups just like you and includes the advice of over 25 experts.  You can download a sample chapter here.

I love that you’re going in-depth in all of these topics, couldn’t come at a better time for me! And who doesn’t want to hear about the health benefits of the big “O”!?! Awesome stuff.
